Geoffrey Mutegeki asked residents what they expect from President Museveni

Abdul Kandole: The President should talk about the security of the Rwenzori region. There are tribal clashes, which can escalate into insecurity in the region.

Anakeleto Businge: He should address the issue of building technical schools in every sub-county. I want the President to assure us that this will be implemented.

Bosco Kahwa: There is need for clear guidelines regarding the fight against corruption. He should assure Ugandans that in the next five years, corruption will be no more.

Beatrice Komuhimbo: The President should address the poor state of our health facilities. Many women die while giving birth. What plans does he have regarding this?

Museveni Campaigns

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Chairperson and flag bearer for the 2016 presidential elections pledged to build more roads and construct more power stations if elected for another term.

“I have to present to you the NRM manifesto. A lot of things are being done. We have pushed the number of kilometres from 1,000km to 3,000km. Between 2001 and now it has gone from 3,000km to 4,000km. we are going to tarmac many more roads. In the next five years, we shall add another 2,000km to make it 6,000km,” he said.

He said government would build more electricity dams in the country to extend power so that more factories are constructed. “Karuma dam is going to give us 600 megawatts. We are also building another one of 123 megawatts at Isimba and one of 148 megawatts at Ayago,” he said. He added that there are plans to extend power to Kasese “There are electricity projects like Nyamwamba dam, Rubiriya, Kyambara and Zizi, “he said.

President Museveni urged the people to engage in cost effective projects to create wealth in their homes by exploiting the infrastructure development.

“The roads, power, schools, health centres are under the category of development. Development is different from wealth. Wealth is yours and development is for everyone. Those things which are ‘ours’ are the work of government. It is government to do all those things and we have got funds for each of those things,” he said.

He told the people that while it is the role of government to ensure development, their roles are only three: to bring wealth to their homes, to live responsibly so that they do not die from AIDS and leave their children as orphans and thirdly to support the NRM so that the steady progress continues.

“You can see now how peaceful this place is. Up to now the Allied Democartic Forces (ADF) is in Democratic Republic of Congo. The last time they came in 2007, they came 100 but only 13 went back home. The rest stayed here and they did not stay standing,” he said.

He noted that government has come in to assist in the role of creating wealth.

“Government is not only doing its work but also going into your roles and helping you. It has also come into your roles to support you by setting up four wealth creation funds: NAADS, Youth Fund, Women Fund and Microfinance Fund,” he said.

He promised to increase funding to the funds, provide seedlings and animals inputs.

He also said the budget for the women fund and youth fund will be increased to sh234b from sh54b and the Micro finance would get sh180b from sh44b. “If Kasese has over 750 villages and we put 2 million shillings for each village that will be almost 2 billion shillings,” he said.

He asked the residents to vote for him and the NRM flag-bearers. “NRM has the capacity to lead Uganda,” he said. The NRM flag-bearers at the rally Jane Muhindo Asiimwe (Woman MP) and Businge Police Fred (Bukonzo East Constituency) promised Museveni a massive win.
