Former Information, communication and technology minister Aggrey Awori has assured Kenyan residents that President Yoweri Museveni can only retire to his Rwakitura farm if he lands a job at Arusha based East African Community headquarters.
Awori, a brother to former Kenyan Vice-President Moody Awori, said formation of the East African Political Federation is the only solution to consign Museveni to retirement.
Awori made the revelation on Sunday while attending the consecration of St. Thomas Cathedral of the Anglican Church of Kenya in Nambale Busia county on Sunday. The occasion was also attended by Anglican Archbishop Eliud Wabukala, Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and Senator Amos Wako.
Awori's father donated the land where the Cathedral is built and they were instrumental in the establishment church in Nambale.
“EAC member states should expedite the formation of a political federation and make one of the Presidents the chairman to serve on permanent basis for two years in Arusha. With Museveni being the longest serving he will be the first to take the seat. The holder of the seat will vacate the presidents at home when he assumes office and will go straight home after his term ends," he said.
Awori said, that is the only medicine to remove Museveni from power. “Calling for term limits in Uganda will not yield fruits," he said.
Awori said the current petition seeking nullification of the February 18 presidential election would have had weight if the petitioner was Dr. Kizza Besigye who finished second and not Amama Mbabazi.
Awori said, EAC needs to go back to the original three members of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania if it intends to realize its dreams of a political federation.
“It was premature to admit Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan as members of the EAC. Their admission has only plunged the community into turmoil," he said.
He said AMISOM had continued to receive threats from Al Shabaab because of United States involvement. We use our own drones in Uganda and yet AMISOM relies on the US.
Awori said Uganda rescued South Sudan when it took over its State House and Airport from the rebels to confirm that Africa needs its only human resource to fight external aggression.
He said his dream is to have a Museveni regime until that time when they feel it is prudent for him to hand over power to a compromised candidate.
