Busia Municipality MP Kevina Taaka of the FDC party has retained her position as the area party flagbearer in the primaries.

Taaka polled 60 votes while Idi Ouma, the FDC national youth chairperson, got 42 votes. Godfrey Olweny did not get any vote.

Before voting, all the candidates addressed members of the electoral college and also promised to rally behind the winner in case of defeat.

Prior to voting, Taaka asked for another term, promising to accomplish the community development programmes she has started.

She said she had initiated many community projects and asked the voters to give her the flag to continue with her work.

Ouma asked to be given the flag, saying new blood was needed for vigorous development of the area.

He commended Taaka for what she had done, but asked to be given chance, saying he had new ideas good for the development of Busia residents.

On his part, Olweny said he was the only one capable of defeating other contestants from other political parties.

But despite their efforts to drum up support, Ouma and Olweny went on to suffer defeat.
