The gun had raised security concerns after the NRM candidate pulled it out at crowds in Muramba sub-county, weeks ago.

This prompted the districts security committee to ask him to hand in the gun until elections are over – and he has now obliged.

Bufumbira South aspiring Member of Parliament Alex Niyonsaba Seruganda handed over the gun to Kisoro district Police commander Abbey Ngako.

The Bufumbira South MP race pits Seruganda against Sam Kwizera Bitangaro, a former MP of the area and ex-minister.

Bitangaro says he is glad Seruganda handed in the gun, adding that victory will go to the candidate who is best equipped for the journey.

Meanwhile, Ngako has met all 14 sub-county police bosses at Kisoro Police Station.

He is also expected to meet all crime preventers in the district in a bid to strengthen security ahead of the NRM primaries for MPa and district chairmen.
